Join Sommelier Mackenzie Putici and Jason Axmith of Cosecha Imports for an incredible deep dive into the wines of Spain. Learn about Spain’s indigenous grape varietals, understand the major wine-growing regions, and taste the authenticity of modern Spanish winemaking.

Courses can be dry, long, and boring. Don’t fret, this one will feel like a friendly social gathering, one that you look forward to attending each Tuesday. A ton of information and tasty wines will be packed into 4 weekly sessions.

Course includes:

  • 4 Zoom Tasting Sessions with Certified Sommelier Mackenzie Putici, co-hosted by winemaker and importer Jason Axmith.
  • Structured tasting to have you sipping like a somm
  • Food pairing suggestions from the Spanish Kitchen
  • Videos and stories of harvest and production in Spain
  • 12 Spanish Wines from Cosecha Imports, shipped to your home in Toronto (Free for M4, M5, M6 area codes) $15 for the GTA, please inquire for other locations.

Session 1: Galicia and Spanish White Wines [Nov 17]

Spain is a warm country with a great climate for bold red wine production. That being said there are cool, Atlantic regions on Spain’s north coast producing crisp white wine, and vibrant reds. Learn about green Spain, and some of the other white-wine regions of the country.

Wines:

  1. Blau Crus Malvasia de Sitges
  2. Albariño Pepe Luis
  3. Estrada Mencía Field Blend

Session 2: Gushing for Garnacha [Nov 24]

Garnacha or Grenache as you may know it is a grape believed to Originate from Spain and to have been spread by the Kingdom of Aragon into Southern France and across the Mediterranean during the Medieval and early modern period. This heat-loving grape thrives in Spain and produces some incredible wines.

Wines:

  1. Albahra Garnacha Tintorera
  2. Bruja de Rozas Garnacha
  3. Joan Danguera Altaroses

Session 3: Grapes you need to meet [Dec 1]

There are a number of local grape varietals that have not made it onto the international market from Spain. Others are being revived by passionate wine makers with a proud focus on local. This week you’ll discover some interesting grapes you’ve probably never heard of.

Wines:

  1. Polar Boar Summoll (Made by Jason!)
  2. Buena Pinta Moravia Agria
  3. Julieta Trepat

Session 4: Tempranillo & Monastrell [Dec 8]

Tempranillo is the most widely known grape of Spain, and often called Spain’s noble variety. This week you’ll taste a pure expression of Tempranillo, and classic Rioja Blend. Then we’ll wrap things up in the sunny south with the deep, purple wines of Jumilla. Great wines to warm you up as winter weather sets in.

FAQs

Do I have to sign up for all 4 weeks?

Yes, if you intend to order the wines. All 12 wines will be delivered at once, 3 bottles will be opened per week, and the 4 zoom sessions are included in this one ticket.

note: You do not need to RSVP for each session. Once you have made the case purchase, we will send you the links for all 4 events.

No, you can sit in on any of the 4 sessions for $35, but tickets are limited, as we want to keep an intimate feel for those who will be tasting the wines at home.

Can I attend the course without buying the wines?

-Short answer: Yes, it’s $35 per session.

-Long answer: A limited amount of tickets will be available for those who may be unable to have the wines sent to them due to their geography, or who can’t participate for other reasons. We highly suggest you taste along with us for the full experience.

What time is each tasting?

Tastings are every Tuesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Nov 17 & 24, Dec 1, & 8.

When do I need to order by?

-The wines will be delivered between Nov 9-13th so the last day to sign up and we can guarantee that you’ll receive your wines on time will be Nov 11th. You may order after this date, but wines may or may not reach before session 1.

What is the waitlist?

After the first 12 cases are sold we have a waitlist. Once enough people have joined the waitlist we can confirm the division of another case set and open up another 12 tickets. We do this to make sure our import partner does not have to open up 12 cases of wine for just a few people. Thank you for your understanding.

Where do you deliver?

Cosecha imports will deliver your 12-bottle mixed case anywhere in the City of Toronto.(Free for M4, M5, M6 area codes) $15 for the GTA, please inquire for other locations at info@cosechaimports.com

What happens if I miss a week?

We’ll miss you, but we will record each session and have the video as well as a PDF of our slide deck available in a google drive for all attendees.
