Our Guide
Philadelphia-born Beth Anne Crane began working when she was 13 years old at her family’s SurfCity Hotel on Long Beach Island, NJ. During her college years, she developed an impassioned interest in wine and spearheaded the wine program for the two restaurants and retail store at the property, which she ultimately managed. She now represents the fourth generation of restaurateurs in her family. She and her father opened Crane’s Tavern & Steakhouse in 1999, the first Prime Grade Beef establishment on Hilton Head. She managed that property for five years before commencing graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania on their campus in Florence, Italy, where she did an interdisciplinary MLA degree. While conducting research for her final thesis on Roman viticulture, she was fascinated by the storied Villa of Mysteries in Pompeii. That interest inspired her own restaurant venture, MUSE in Charleston, SC. At Muse she created a villa like environment where all things Mediterranean meet in food, wine, warm hospitality and art. MUSE offers 75 plus selections of wine by the glass with reverence to old world terroir. The wine selections complement the menu offerings, whose flavors hail from various corners of the Mediterranean. MUSE and Crane’s both are reminiscent of her family’s past establishments where locals find their home away from home.
