Discover the serious dry white and sweet wines from Bordeaux. Compare the 2016, 17 and 18 vintages of Clos des Lunes’ Lune d’Argent, owned by Domaine de Chevalier, with the flagship white of the estate itself, and round it off with three contrasting vintages of Chateau Suduiraut.

Domaine de Chevalier

Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, Domaine de Chevalier produces some of the best age-worthy wines in Bordeaux. James has tasted some fabulous whites from this Pessac-Leognan estate, with bottle ages of 30 and 40 years. The reds from the 1950s and 1960s are excellent too. The only problem is finding them. The wines of Domaine de Chevalier are highly sought by wine collectors and very few are willing to part with these bottles. The reds and whites both have an incredible depth of fruit and a unique character from the stony soils of the vineyards. The recent vintages hark back to the halcyon days of great winemaking from this estate. In fact, the wines of the last decade are its best vintages ever produced!

Château Suduiraut

AXA Millesimes acquired Chateau Suduiraut in 1992, adding the chateau to its star-studded portfolio of wineries. Today, Suduiraut is one of the great names of Sauternes, alongside d’Yquem, Rieussec, Climens and Giraud. While remaining agile and lively, Suduiraut’s monumental sweet wines show amazing freshness and richness. Boasting a refined and almost feminine style, the wines demonstrate wonderful persistence on the palate. The best wines from Suduiraut, which are almost all semillon, are those that have been created in the past decade. Although the wines have a wonderful capacity to age, they can also be consumed young due to their balance and precision.
