CHÂTEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD VERTICAL TASTING: BEYOND 2020
Masterclass Tasting
June 11, 2021 (Friday); 5.15 p.m. – 6.15 p.m.
@ James Suckling Wine Central
(5 wines to taste) / HK$3,088 per person
This is an incredibly rare opportunity to taste a vertical of Château Lafite Rothschild together with a world-acclaimed wine critic and the CEO of the estate.
Join this special masterclass and vertical tasting hosted and presented by internationally acclaimed wine critic James Suckling. The tasting is limited to an exclusive group of 15pax only.
While Domaine Barons Rothschild (DBR) has gradually expanded its foothold beyond Bordeaux, it is the Lafite name, and its wines, that remain core not just to this company’s wine business, but that also represents an aspirational benchmark for many winemakers and wine lovers the world over.
Wine critic James Suckling and Château Lafite Rothschild’s CEO Jean-Guillaume Prats will take a look at the 2020 vintage in comparison to similar vintages from previous years, going back as far as 1988 and 1985.
Featured Producer
Château Lafite Rothschild
The famous Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 placed Lafite first out of all the region’s Premier Crus. With origins dating back to medieval times, the chateau was purchased in 1868 by James de Rothschild who some say wanted to outdo his nephew, Nathaniel de Rothschild, who had just bought neighboring Mouton-Rothschild, also in Bordeaux’s Pauillac appellation. The two branches of the family maintain a healthy rivalry to this day.
List of Wines
Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 2016 – 100 points
Incredible aromas of crushed berries, sweet tobacco and wet earth. So perfumed and gorgeous. Hot stones and cement, too. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with lots of intense tannins and a never ending finish. Juicy and flavorful. A muscular Lafite, not seen for a long time. Classssssss! Try after 2025.
Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 2010 – 99 points
This is shy and not giving its all at the moment. Yet it is full and intense with a tightly intertwined tannic and fruit structure. Ethereal blackberry, currant, cedar, and nutty flavors. Dried flowers too. Cedar jewel box smell comes out with time. Great finish. So, so long and harmonious. Try in 2018.
Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 1996 – 97 points
The beauty and balance of this are phenomenal. Seamless tannins and fruit. Full body yet so balanced and refined. Sweet tobacco and berries. Minerals and cedar. A beautiful wine. The depth is superb. Drink now.
