From the relatively recent releases, the 2008 vintage in Champagne is considered to be an exceptional year making iconic or legendary wines. Many of the champagne from this year show real depth and outstanding quality which compete at ease with the famous 2002 vintage. Ideal conditions and slow ripening season allowed the best Champagne houses to achieve remarkable wines. Discover the variations and diverse styles of top wines from Laurent-Perrier, De Venoge, Henri Giraud, Deutz and Champagne Henriot.
Featured Producers
Champagne de Venoge
Champagne de Venoge is based in the Epernay region of Champagne, though it originated in Mareuil-sur-Ay in 1837. The house now produces various wines, including blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs as well as premium labels such as Des Princes and Louis XV. Dedicated to high quality standards throughout the winemaking process, such as the best crus, low dosage, only using first presses and long ageing periods, the house produces bold but crisp wines that are eminently drinkable.
Champagne Deutz
Champagne comes with great heritage at Champagne Deutz, which has been making Champagne for more than 180 years. It exudes the kid of prestige of the most admired houses, and is endorsed by fine hotels such as The Ritz, The Connaught, and The Savoy. Based in the Ay region of Champagne, the house was founded in 1838 and has been run by successive generations of the Deutz and Geldermann families. In 1983 the house was acquired by Louis Roederer, but has a style all its own. Think big, broad pinot noir wines of Champagne that have great balance and concentration, and fun, dry finishes.
Champagne Laurent-Perrier
Independent family-run Champagne house Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 and is the main company of the Laurent-Perrier Group, whose other flagship brands include the houses of Salon, De Castellane and Delamotte. Bernard de Nonancourt pioneered new approaches here at both the technical and blending level while also retaining traditional Champagne methods. This gave birth to the Laurent-Perrier style, which embodies innovation, freshness, elegance, and more than 50% chardonnay in all white wines. Today the wines are celebrated for their consistent quality, cuvee after cuvee.
Champagne Henriot
Led today by the eight-generation family member Gilles de Larouziere, Maisons & Domaines Henriot encompasses four wine brands united by family values and great quality. Champagne Henriot was founded in 1808 and has cultivated a style that pushes chardonnay to its purest form. The wines are racy and dense with wonderful texture and length.
Henri Giraud
The Champagne house of Henri Giraud, now managed by a 12th-generation family member, Claude Giraud, has long been a favorite wine among drinkers of note. Its vineyards lie on the revered mountain of Ay, considered a Grand Cru area of Champagne, and the wines are built on a unique approach to terroir. Harvested fruits are vinified and aged in Argonne oak barriques, made from trees that are 200 to 300 years old, resulting in a truly distinct style of Champagne.
