Attention wine lovers! This masterclass is one not to miss. Taste the superlative Brunello 2010 vintage – including top-scoring wines as well as a perfect-scoring 100-point wine! – together with internationally-acclaimed wine critic James Suckling himself and see how the wines developed eleven years on. James has been tasting wines from Italy for more than four decades and has been visiting the country regularly since 1983 when he first traveled across Italy with a group of US wine merchants. As many of you know he has a home not far from Florence, and usually he tries to visit at least once or twice a year.

_______

Already upon release, the 2010 vintage for Brunello di Montalcino became the greatest modern vintage of Italy’s prestigious red wine region. Sangiovese grapes ripened beautifully and across the board, top producers bottled wines unrivalled in quality, character and concentration from the best hillside vineyards of Montalcino. The following line up will showcase how the top wines, including the 100-point Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino, are developing 11 years after harvest and six years after release.

______

AND THERE’S MORE….

Guests will be treated to an artisan cheese and charcuterie platter to round off the evening and will be welcome with an aperitivo.

Guests may decide to stay on and have dinner after at James Suckling Wine Central and sample Chef Albert’s incredible wine-friendly food, including the delicious Organic Yellow Brick Chicken, USDA Prime Petit Tender Beef Tataki or his insanely creamy Rigatoni Alla Cabonara.

Banfi

American-owned Banfi is admired for the excellence of its Brunellos. This is all thanks to the Mariani family, who in 1978 had the foresight to invest heavily in the Montalcino region.

Canalicchio di Sopra

The Brunello di Montalcinos of this family-owned estate are almost always extremely aromatic and bright, due at least in part to the vineyards’ location on the northern slopes of the appellation.

Caparzo

Caparzo is one of the few estate-bottled producers of Brunello di Montalcino to have its own holdings on all five sides of the Montalcino hill. This helps to ensure that no climatic challenges can affect production since one of the five vineyards can surely compensate.

Castiglion del Bosco

This luxury destination – the dream of Massimo Ferragamo of the famous Tuscan fashion family – in the hills of the Brunello di Montalcino region has boosted tourism in central Italy. The wines here are rich and powerful and show wonderful depth and structure in nearly every vintage.

Cordella

It has been a pleasure to watch Maddalena Cordella find her own groove at this young winery. Her wines really came into their own in 2010 upon the completion of a brand new winery to serve Brunello Cordella and its 16 hectares of organically cultivated grapes; that enduring vintage is James’s favorite from her line-up thus far. The future is bright for this winery.

Tenuta del Cerro

Tenute del Cerro is owned by the Italian insurance and financial company Unipol Group. The group is best known for its extravagant Brunello di Montalcinos but also makes exquisite wines on the coast of Tuscany as well as further inland in Montepulciano, where the Vino Nobile it produces is consistently outstanding.

La Magia

La Magia’s 15 hectares are farmed organically and certified, and its flagship wine, La Magia Brunello di Montalcino, is known for its incredible purity of fruit and ripe, silky tannins.

La Rasina

La Rasina is one of a number of small jewels in Montalcino producing exquisite wines. The Mantengoli family are not only proud viticulturalists – all their grapes are grown organically – but also one of the oldest independent growers in the region with four generations of experience.

Marchesi Frescobaldi

The Frescobaldi family has been making wines for 700 years, yet it is their more recent endeavors that are destined for the history books. The family’s best wines come from an array of appellations in Tuscany, from Chianti to Brunello di Montalcino.

Siro Pacenti *JamesSuckling.com Wine of the Year 2019*

Located on the northern slopes of Montalcino, Siro Pacenti is a leader in the appellation. The Brunellos are now raised from family-owned vineyards in both the north and south of Montalcino, giving them a beautiful balance of richness and freshness. Reflecting the talent of youthful producer Giancarlo, the Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne 2015 got James’s nod as the 2019 Wine of the Year.

Uccelliera

The qualitative evolution at Uccelliera is an excellent example of how small wine producers have better focused their viticulture and winemaking in the past few decades. The wines here have always reflected the true nature of the vintage and its unique growing area in Castelnuovo dell’Abate in Montalcino. These are deep, complex wines that should be on every Brunello lover’s radar.
