One day Australian front man James Challis came to Vancouver with his fender telecaster, met Canadian bassist Daniel Re and formed the band Colour Tongues. In early 2017, James met Dave Taylor at a party in East Vancouver, the two bonded over a love of vegemite and Dave auditioned for the band the next day.
James and Dan felt Dave’s Grohl-esque power and flare for accenting would complement their choreographed tapping arrangements, and offered him the spot. Graeme Meekison, a 19-year old virtuoso with a love of metal and prog rock auditioned the next week, blew the guys out of the water, and thus the band solidified in April 2017.
With a blend of influences coming from alternative, shoegaze, dream pop, grunge, classical, and jazz, the band has emerged with a distinct sound that blends the complexities of math rock with the accessibility of indie.
