It is said that to produce meaningful art one must experience meaningful things. Perhaps this is shown most clearly in the complex relationship between Robert Schumann, his wife Clara, and their friend Johannes Brahms. Much is written on the intimacy of their friendship and the music it inspired.
Enjoy the stirring depth of emotion expressed in their respective Violin and Piano Sonatas’, performed here as part of the evening’s concert, and also used as a starting point for the accompanying art installation by guest artist, Mari Kidd. She comments:
A collaboration of music and visual art… We ask, why stay in one category, why not branch out into other creative avenues.
Emulating it in her own work, Mari Kidd has discovered unconventional techniques in her art making approach.
The music has been used as an analogy or metaphor in artistic expression. It echos the passionate complexity of the triangular relationship of creativity. The juxtaposition of the images, within the art works show the strong contrast within the characters.
These two art forms sit comfortably side by side to evoke a crescendo of emotions.
After enjoying the guest wine of the evening, explore the theme of love in a more light hearted fashion with swing classics and popular bossa nova song. Including, of course, Nat King Cole’s L.O.V.E. Not just for Valentine’s day.
